I've shared a folder with you entitled, Communism in Crisis. Please make a folder under you GDoc History folder, entitled "Paper 1." Place the shared folder in this new folder. There are three readings in it:



Second, I've shared a document with you entitled, Communism in Crisis - LAST. If you haven't already, make a copy of it and share it with me. Erase "copy of" and put your last name on it.

Read the USSR in Crisis - Brezhnev Era reading in the shared folder.

The Brezhnev Era - 1964 to 1982

This two decade period was characterized by gradualism. The leaders had been born in the 20th century. As such, they were too young to have played an active part in the revolution, and instead had risen through the ranks as apparatchiks (a blindly devoted communist official) and placemen (an appointed official). They abandoned Khrushchev's plans for “Communism in 20 years” in favor of a policy of “developed Socialism.” Critics, however, call it the “Big Sleep. In 1980 almost all of the Politburo were over 70 years old.

I can't make this up: Soviet Dictator Leonid Brezhnev in the late 1970s. He followed Khrushchev in 1964. He died in 1982.

HOMEWORK FOR THIS WEEKEND

Find the shared file folder entitled, "Cold War Readings." In that folder you will find the reading, "Cold War - Ch. 1." It is the same reading as the paper copy you received this week.

Read pages 2 - 7. Stop at the top of Section 4.

Answer questions 1 - 9 on the document that you shared with me entitled, "Cold War Notes."

Your answer are due no later than 8:20 a. on Tues., Sept. 2.
